When you buy property in South Africa, the costs of transferring it into your name sit on top of the purchase price. Transfer duty is a tax paid to SARS on properties above a threshold. The conveyancing fee is the attorney's professional fee for attending to the transfer, and the Deeds Office charges a separate registration fee to record the change of ownership.
If you are financing the purchase, your bank appoints a bond attorney to register the mortgage bond, which carries its own fee and Deeds Office charge. Use the calculator below for an indicative estimate of both.
